Neila claims first career WorldWCR win, pipping Herrera by just under two tenths

The opening round of the WorldWCR season is in the books and it is a tie for first and second place between Neila and Herrera for the Title lead after Neila claims P1 in Race 2 via a brave final lap overtake

The final event of the weekend for the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship grid is in the books, capping off a season-debut weekend to remember. Unlike the rest of the weekend, Sunday’s Race 2 was affected by overnight rain which left the track soaked throughout the morning’s Warm up sessions. By WorldWCR’s Race 2, the track had largely dried out, allowing the riders to open the throttle, something Maria Herrera was able to do to claim an early P1, however a dramatic late overtake by Neila earned the #36 her first WorldWCR win with Sara Sanchez rounding out the top three.

FIRST CAREER WIN FOR NEILA: Ties Herrera in championship standings

Maria Herrera (Klint Forward Racing Team) had a quick jump off of the line from P2, pipping Beatriz Neila (Ampito Crescent Yamaha) for an early P1. Behind Herrera, the trio of Beatriz Neila, Sara Sanchez (Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha WorldWCR Team), and Avalon Lewis (Carl Cox Motorsports) all rode close behind, whittling time off the margin between them and P1. The group stayed compacted as the race wound down, until Madrid Native Neila made her move in the final lap, holding off Herrera in the final chicane to claim her first career WorldWCR Win. Herrera and Sanchez followed her across the line for P2 and P3, Lewis caught a tough break when she suffered a lowside crash in the final chicane to lose out on her P4.

OVERTAKES GALORE: Ponziani, Ruiz, and Relph able to fly up the grid for strong result

Roberta Ponziani (Klint Forward Racing Team) dropped down from P4 to a low of P18 by Turn 6 of Lap 1 after a poor jump off the line, however she then put on a herculean recovery to salvage her Race 2 for the P4 she started with. Having climbed up from a P15 start, Pakita Ruiz (PR46+1 Racing Team) worked her way up the grid to claim P5. Australian Tayla Relph (Full Throttle Racing) earned a P6 to close her Dutch weekend P7 in Race 1 and P6 in Race 2.

LATAM WELL REPRESENTED: Madrigal and Carreno earn top 10 finish for Pons Italika FIMLA Racing Team

British Rider Chloe Jones (GR Motorsport) was a mere 0.086s behind Relph in P6, finishing the race in P7. Astrid Madrigal (Pons Italika Racing FIMLA) earned her second-best result in her two years in WorldWCR in P8. French Rider Lucie Boudesseul (GMT94-YAMAHA) finished P9, a best career result in the category for the WorldWCR rookie. Capping off the top 10, Isis Carreno (Pons Italika Racing FIMLA) for P10, tying her Race 1 result.
